The Rose Collection updates Brighton Hospital Windows

Sash Windows UK can supply the windows needed for many types of project, from residential to larger renovation works, small homes or public buildings.

With over 30 years of experience in the industry, their fantastic reputation led Tony Lee at Hastings Windows to choose Sash Windows, and their Rose Collection uPVC sash windows, for a large window replacement project at Brighton Hospital.

What did the project involve?

This large-scale project involved replacing over 200 traditional sash windows for Brighton General Hospital, a former workhouse and infirmary that dates back to 1865. Being a four storey, 50ft high building with four gables, this window replacement project required the best quality windows on the market, and the most reputable company to supply them.

The installers for this project were won over by the fact that the Rose Collection provides amazing products from the longest established uPVC sash window manufacturer in the UK. Case studies such as these prove that they offer fantastic service, whether supplying the products for a project or installing them too.

The Rose Collection

With Sash Windows UK and their products having such a wide range of uPVC window profiles and optional hardware to choose from, the Heritage Rose style was favoured. The windows feature a slim profile and many original design features typically found on timber sash windows, including a deep bottom rail, run through sash-horns and authentic external putty lines.

Sash windows in the Rose Collection is white as standard and available in a choice of wood grain foils to suit personal taste and the style of the property or building being updated. To further complete the timber look, a range of Georgian and astragal bars are available as well as many different hardware options to choose from.

This made them a very appropriate choice for window installation on a large public building and will save time and expense on cleaning, maintenance and security protection.

A company that care about conservation

Historically, uPVC has not been allowed in conservation areas because modern windows couldn’t replicate the traditional window features that gave buildings their character.
However, improvements in technology and design have allowed us to create a range of fully authentic uPVC sash windows that have earned their place as a viable alternative to timber.

Due to the age of the Brighton General Hospital, Buckinghamshire-based Sash Windows UK had to carefully liaise with the planning department to ensure that their Rose windows matched the original timber ones. This meant working with the same profile dimension, slim millions, astragal bar designs and avoiding trickle vents by using double-stage keeps. This ensured that the windows complied with strict ventilation regulations without affecting the way they looked.

Sash Windows regularly inform conservation officers and English Heritage about the benefits of uPVC windows. With such proactive care, attention to detail and knowledge, it is understandable why the Rose collection is designed to be suited to period properties and houses within conservation areas. For example, the authentic detailing of the Heritage Rose style windows has been accepted in numerous conservation areas across the UK including the Royal Borough of Chelsea and Kensington, Lincoln, Worcester and Cambridge.

Why else should you choose uPVC sash windows from the Rose Collection?

Original sash windows are an important part of our heritage that are equally renowned for being insecure, draughty and hard to maintain. Modern sash alternatives remove these worries – luckily companies such as Sash Windows UK offer fantastic timber effect sash windows. They are aesthetically identical but outstrip traditional materials in terms of thermal performance, security and reduced maintenance hassle.

This police led initiative rewards just 500 companies in the country for the security benefits of their products.

Such design success made these uPVC windows a viable choice for even a large building, with Brighton General Hospital having fifty times more windows than the average house.

With such well-designed products, the uPVC sash windows in the Rose Collection are suited to any scale of window replacement project, whether small homes or large public buildings, even in strictly-regulated conservation areas.
